Leona Lewis Concert

Thanks to an amazing present from my sister I was at the Leona Lewis concert on Tuesday night. What a fantastic concert! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but because of her HUGE belters I was thinking of  something simple, just Leona, her fabulous gowns and angelic voice. Instead, I was completely wowed by the visually enchanting sets, screen displays, and dancers who wonderfully brought Leona’s songs to life.

The show combined a dynamic mix of dance choreography courtesy of Jermaine Browne (and his assistant Rachel Kay), who has worked with the likes of  Anna Vissi, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Lopez, with the slick aerial choreography of Dreya Weber. Dreya has worked with Pink, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Cher, so you would expect nothing but greatness. The end result was beautiful, a mesmerising display of talent. The storytelling abilities of the choreographers and energy of the dancers really brought me into Leona’s Labyrinth world.

I was reduced to tears at many points during the concert, and for those who know me might not think that this is unusual, but in particular “I Got You”, was so romantic, elegant and captivating I couldn’t stop my bottom jaw from quivering. Not only did Leona look like a fairytale princess but the single male dancer who performed with her looked so in love, and executed his movements with such sincerity I genuinely believed he was in love…although I suppose this isn’t too difficult to do when its Leona you’re dancing with!

One of my other favourite songs “Can’t Breathe”, was danced using what I can only describe as giant exercise balls which dancers lay on, moved around, and jumped over, definitely different. In contrast, Leona sang a fantastic cover of Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Really Care About Us” which showed off the choreographer’s edgy and athletic style which was performed with precision and conviction by the dancers.

In short, Leona was faultless, and her dancers were inspiring. I loved the concept, loved the outfits, loved it!
